Pimec makes history by joining the European Economic and Social Committee to represent SMEs in Europe with its own voice

The appointment of Jacint Soler, director of International Relations and European Affairs, strengthens Pimec’s institutional representativeness in the body recognised as the Parliament of civil society at the Catalan, Spanish and European levels Barcelona, ​​28 May 2025. Pimec has been appointed as a new member of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) for the 2025–2030 term. The Catalan business organisation achieves its highest institutional representation in Europe, reinforcing its role as the legitimate voice of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and self-employed professionals within the institutions of the European Union. The Director of International Relations and European Affairs, Jacint Soler Matutes, will represent Pimec in the EESC within Group I (Employers). With this appointment, Pimec strengthens its institutional presence in the body recognised as the Parliament of civil society, both in Catalonia, Spain and Europe. This appointment of Pimec, the only Catalan business organization with a permanent delegation in the European capital and which holds the vice-presidency of SME United, is the result of the work it carries out in Brussels to promote the competitiveness and growth of SMEs and by which maintains a continuous dialogue with different European institutions, groups and organisations. Its persistence efforts have ensured that smaller businesses have their own voice in the arena where European policies that directly affect them are shaped. This milestone adds to other recent achievements of Pimec, such as its incorporation into the Spanish Economic and Social Council, the National Consultative Commission of Collective Agreements and the State Council of SMEs, further strengthening its presence in key socio-economic governance bodies at both the national and European levels. Based in Brussels and composed of representatives from all EU member states, the EESC is a key consultative body that contributes to the development of European legislation, bringing the perspectives of the business community, labour, and organised civil society.
